What is Pichu?

Pichu is a localized Ayurvedic treatment where a thick cotton pad or folded sterile cloth is soaked in warm medicated oil or herbal decoction and placed over a specific affected area of the body. The medicated pad, known as Pichu, allows sustained contact of the medicine with the tissues. This prolonged application helps the therapeutic properties of the oil penetrate deeply, providing warmth, nourishment, and relief. Depending on the area treated, it may be referred to as Shiro Pichu (head), Kati Pichu (lower back), or Greeva Pichu (neck).

Consultation & Assessment : A detailed clinical evaluation is done to understand the condition, body constitution, and the area to be treated. Based on this, the appropriate medicated oil or herbal preparation is selected.
Preparation : The chosen medicated oil is gently warmed to a comfortable temperature. A thick cotton pad or sterile gauze is thoroughly soaked in the oil, and the patient is positioned comfortably according to the treatment area.
Application (Pichu Therapy) : The oil-soaked pad is placed over the affected area and retained for 20–45 minutes. The oil is reheated and replenished periodically to maintain warmth and enhance absorption. Mild pressure may be applied when indicated.
Post-Therapy Care : After removing the Pichu, excess oil is gently wiped off. The patient is advised to rest for a short period, and post-treatment instructions such as avoiding cold exposure, heavy activity, or direct sunlight for a few hours are provided.
